Our client is a diversified Australian investment and operating group with strategic interests across industrial services, energy, equipment distribution, and media. Through a combination of operational involvement and capital allocation, it supports growth initiatives, M&A activity, and transformation strategies within its investments.
Its corporate development function plays a key role in evaluating new opportunities, optimising portfolio performance, and identifying synergies across its business units and investments.
Key Responsibilities
- Investment Portfolio Management & Development
- Manage and monitor a portfolio of listed, unlisted, and venture investments.
- Review financial performance and provide insights to senior executives.
- Evaluate business cases, financial forecasts, and investment strategies.
- Conduct competitor analysis and market research.
- Identify and assess opportunities for portfolio optimisation, including M&A, restructuring, dilution, and divestment.
- Research and evaluate new investment opportunities across various industries and sectors.
- Portfolio & Asset Review Committee
- Lead the monthly PARC process, including agenda setting and preparation of investment papers and reports.
- Identify and present group-level growth opportunities (adjacent or opportunistic).
- Maintain and update a strategic watchlist of corporate and business unit-level investment opportunities.
- Corporate Development & Strategic M&A
- Support or lead the due diligence process for acquisitions, divestments, and strategic investments.
- Conduct market assessments, company overviews, and review of investment plans.
- Assist in the development and execution of roll-up or adjacent acquisition strategies.
- Build and review valuation models, return analyses, and investment scenario modelling.
- Contribute to divestment processes by managing data delivery, financial projections, and value creation plans for external stakeholders.
- Collaborate with finance, tax, and accounting teams to evaluate financial aspects of transactions.
Ideal profile
- Demonstrated experience in investment analysis, identifying and evaluating mergers and acquisitions.
- Demonstrated understanding of legal, accounting and tax issues from investments / M&A
- Business and commercial acumen.
- Demonstrated negotiation ability.
- Experience in stakeholder management.
- High level of interpersonal skills, ability to influence people or groups.
- High level of judgement and discretion.
- Highly developed problem solving and time management skills.
- Exceptional oral, written communication and presentation skills.
